近日，遼寧大學李安民經濟研究院助理教授王志鋒（通訊作者）與湖南大學經濟管理研究中心博士生陳麗萍，上海立信會計金融學院統計與數學學院講師陳楊，中南財經政法大學財稅學院講師林嘉達，華東政法大學商學院講師沈竺逸合作論文Commute Time to School and Child Labor：Evidence from China被發展經濟學知名期刊Journal of Development Studies刊用接受。

作者簡介：

王志鋒，李安民經濟研究院助理教授，南洋理工大學經濟學博士，曾任教于湖南大學，主要研究領域為發展經濟學和勞動經濟學。所著論文發表于Journal of Development Economics，Journal of Development Studies，World Economy，Singapore Economic Review等國際期刊。擔任Economic Modelling，Singapore Economic Review等期刊匿名審稿人。

陳麗萍，湖南大學經濟管理研究中心博士研究生，主要研究領域為勞動經濟學。曾在Journal of Development Studies，《經濟學（季刊）》和《財經研究》期刊發表論文。

論文摘要：

Child labor presents a pervasive challenge in developing nations, significantly impacting long-term economic growth by hindering the accumulation of human capital. This study utilizes data from the China Family Panel Studies to investigate the impact of commute time to school on child labor. The empirical results indicate that a one-hour increase in a child’s commute time to school correlates with a statistically significant increase of 6.3 percentage points in the likelihood of the child engaging in labor market, as well as an increase of 2.3 hours in weekly working hours. Moreover, the mechanism analysis suggests that longer commute time reduces children’s learning time, resulting in lower academic performance and educational expectations. Consequently, this increases the likelihood of children joining the labor market during compulsory education. These results underscore the need for enhancing transportation infrastructure and optimizing school locations in developing nations to counteract child labor by shortening commute times and improving educational access.
